The heart behind it all
Why I created The Crafter's Cookbook
Hi, I'm Kastell! Let me introduce myself a little bit and the reason I started a crafty mail club-
I have always been an arts and crafts girl since I was little. There is no other thing in this world that has made me feel more like me. Nothing else that fills my cup and feeds my soul like getting to make something. I went to college and graduated with a degree in product design because that's all I've ever wanted to do. I just love to create- anything from making a friendship bracelet to building a picnic table. In college I was surrounded by so much creativity and collaboration and made so many cool things! I loved waking up everyday and getting to create.
I have always felt very passionately about the importance of using your hands to make something and how lost we have become in a world of consumerism and mind numbing entertainment.
After I graduated, I lost my creative spark and got sucked into exhausting my energy into a job I cared nothing about. And even though I enjoyed it, I felt so unfulfilled. I knew I needed to start creating again, but after working 40 hours a week, I had no energy left. I wasn't excited about the idea of crafting, and that made me so sad.
But then in September of 2025, I discovered that there were artists with snail mail clubs. It was a community I had no idea even existed, and one that I immediately fell in love with and knew I wanted to be a part of. I felt that light within me begin to brighten instantaneously and my zest for design was reignited. So within a month, I launched my mail club with one goal -not to send people art to look at, but to give people the chance to use their hands to make something! The Crafter's Cookbook is a way to not only bring the joy of creating back into my life, but to share that love and joy with others. In a world that is overrun by digital interaction and consumerism, I hope that this can be a way for people to slow down and reconnect with the beauty of making things and using their hands to create something. Even if that's just this one little craft a month. Whether you are a seasoned crafter or have never made anything in your whole life - the crafter's cookbook is for you!
Because anyone can craft and everyone should!
